Issue migrating blog sites from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013

Couple of days back I was migrating a Blog site from SharePoint 2010 to 2013. Goal was simple, to migrate the blog site to SharePoint 2013 from SharePoint 2010.

Issue:

After following all migartion steps,when I opened my blog site in SP2013 site, all data including the previous posts and comments was migrated correctly. But I faced an issue while commenting on existing or any new post. On Submitting the post New Comment webpart was redirecting to Comment List and the Post Title ( look up column) for the comment posted), was not updating. Because of which comments were not updating for the post.

After analysis I found out that the issue is occurring the blog sites which were created from custom site definition. Since there is a change in definition as well as webparts in SP 2013, existing webparts will not work after migration.

Resolution:

To resolve the issue, add JSLink as sp.ui.blogs.js in the “Post and comment” webpart of post.aspx page. Once JSLink property is added the webpart, the comments started working and there was no redirection to the comment list.

Note: This will also fix your breaking of post.aspx page after migration.
